Second Trimester with Twins (18-20)

This second trimester is nothing like it was with Aria! With my first I was sick and that was hard. This time around I am on Zofran so I am still sick but not to the same extent with my first, which is a relief because I had prepared myself for the absolute worse this time around which might contribute to me feeling better this time. But something I was not prepared for was the PAIN. I remember it might have gotten painful into the third trimester with my first but these last few weeks have pushed my daily pain to a new level. Being at the halfway point this makes me worry for the next few months, its going be hard.

To continue with symptoms the biggest things are aches/pains and pure exhaustion. I am not one to fall asleep as soon as my husband and I flip on the TV at night, no that's always been his job. But I haven't been able to last after 9o'clock every-night. That isn't saying I made it to 9 every-night because I did not, there have been more 7:30-8o'clock nights than I should admit to. The pain and exhaustion combination do not add to late nights. I do have a big Velcro support belt that I have enjoyed a lot lately the only problem is the babies are already pushing into all of my organs and when I wear the belt, I get really bad heartburn. So, it's been deciding what I want to experience at that time.

I am sure you are interested more in these babies! I know I am always more interested in them. Well we had our last check in on the babies at 19 weeks. Good news they are doing so well, we are so grateful with how good they are growing. This appointment was to check for TTTS (Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome) but not anatomy scan yet so it was very quick compared to the last ultrasound. This ultrasound they scanned the babies and checked for heart beats which they both had, and they were strong and healthy. They then checked the amniotic fluid levels in each sac to make sure one baby was not getting more than the other. This is something that happens in 10% or pregnancies like mine (MoDi). Because of this we will be seen every two weeks for the next couple months.

At this appointment I wanted to make sure I asked why I am-not feeling the babies consistently yet. I was starting to get nervous. Turns out my placenta is anterior, which means it is in front of the babies like a cushion between my stomach and the babies. This answer made a lot of sense, and I have noticed these girls much more lately. But I feel them down low and in my back which are both crazy sensations. I swear they are trying to kick their way out sometimes. Another reason this was so good fo me to know is because the location of the placenta it is playing a huge role in the back pain I am feeling already at this stage.

Luckily these babies are healthy and happy so far which is such a blessing we just have to stayed monitored closely because of all the possible complications. As mommy, this is terrifying, and every little difference is so scary. If I am not feeling myself or feeling extra achy, I get worried and that is a lot of stress, I am so glad I have the support system I do.

I know this was a short update, but in this case that is actually desired. The next appointment is and anatomy scan so we will make sure these girls have all the required finger, toes, and body parts. They will also go into more detail on the growth of all the organs so we can make sure they are growing at the right rate. This is super important especially if they are going to try and make an early exit, we have to cross our fingers and hope they wait until March. But until then watch for updates on how me and these girls are doing!
